But most of us are self-aware enough to understand that even as we do this, we are lying to ourselves. We recognize those dangers when it comes to politics (see: Bush and Clinton). Why should clothes be any different?

For now, most of the activity around bitcoin is monetary in nature, so it makes sense that its critics point to volatility. Though the value of one bitcoin in U.S. dollars has fallen 67% in the past year, its value over the past two years is up 1,879%, according to the market price chart at blockchain.info. So whether it’s a good investment or a bad one is a matter of perspective.

- Taken together, these events and strategic initiatives highlight the Chinese aerospace industry’s realization that, in order to become a globally competitive player, it will need depth as much as breadth. After getting their hands on both ends of the value chain—aircraft design and final assembly—the Chinese now understand that what will make or break their industry over the long term is what happens in the middle of the value chain, at the component and subsystem levels. And that is why China’s ambition to compete with Boeing and Airbus, as well as with GE and Rolls-Royce for aircraft engines, is now more credible than ever.

As we began 2017, the Warriors were in a rocky point with their upgraded super-team. They'd lost to most of the other premier Western Conference teams, and just lost to the Cavaliers on Christmas. Maybe, just maybe, this super-team was mortal just like the 2016 team that looked invincible was. As it turns out, in a word, nope.

Sales. Everyone knows the sales number. The first thing I do in the morning is run the sales reports – what’s on the trucks today? How does this sales day compare to the same sales day last year? How are we trending this month vs. the plan and vs. the same month last year? I spend a lot of time reviewing the sales number, and I know you do, too!
Gross Profit. In my experience, very few people know the gross profit number, or pay any attention to it. To improve your company results this needs to change. Teach your people to understand and respect the mighty power of gross profit. It will literally transform your bottom line. Next to net profit, gross profit is the most important number on your income statement (and your Daily P&L).
Final predictions: Weak economic growth will continue into 2010. By spring, the Obama White House will be forced to the political center and U.S. businesses will finally believe in a modest recovery.
If a sitcom that lasts for 10 years is considered popular, then surely one that still stirs up emotions after 20 must be considered a classic. Friends first aired in the US in 1994, featuring a cast of six young men and women in New York. In the time since, it’s become one of the most famous titles in the sitcom genre, aired in over 100 countries and regions in the world.
Operating expenses. These expenses include salaries, benefits, utilities, and lease payments. If you study the numbers, what you will find is that these numbers are very consistent and predictable from month to month. As a result, you can make a reasonably accurate estimate of your operating expenses to include in your Daily P&L.
Net Income. The bottom line. This is simply the difference between gross profit and operating expenses. Subtract the two and you have Net Income.

Every January for the past decade I have handed out awards for horrible use of language in business. Usually the task amuses me. This year I have found the sheer weight of euphemism, grammatical infelicity, disingenuity and downright ugliness so lowering I have decided to start the 2016 Golden Flannel Awards with something more uplifting: a prize for clarity.
His first coding effort resulted in an app that played audio snippets from speeches by his idol, Steve Jobs, whose unauthorized biography he'd recently devoured. 'It was rejected by Apple for every reason,' D'Aloisio says now, laughing. 'Copyrighted audio, poor functionality, too simple.' Another early design allowed users to touch a picture of wood, producing a knocking sound. A third transformed a smartphone screen into a treadmill for your fingers. That one earned about $120 in sales on its first day.
Local farmers must love this wireless company as much as its employees do. Once a week, San Diego-based Qualcomm hosts a farmers market at two of its locations. Sales. Build a daily sales report (you probably have 29 different sales reports already) and use this to capture the day’s sales to enter into the Daily P&L sheet. Your sales manager runs the number anyway; have them send the information to the point person to include on the Daily P&L.
Gross profit. In your route accounting software, build a gross profit report (please tell me you have at least one GP report). Here again, you’ll grab the gross profit for the day and enter into the spreadsheet. Ideally, your gross profit will capture all the appropriate data – correct pricing, product costs and supplier depletion allowances (bill-backs). If this information isn’t 100% correct, don’t sweat it, we are looking for a good estimate so we can get the Daily P&L done and communicated ASAP. The GP report may be run by your accounting manager or your inventory manager and sent to the point person for the Daily P&L.
Operating Expense (OPEX). For this number, use your planned spending with input from your department heads. For example, if your budget calls for total monthly OPEX of $156,000, use this as a starting point for your Daily P&L. Take the $156,000, divide it by the number of working days in the month (20 days, in this example) and put the resulting $7,800 daily OPEX in your P&L.

Two terrifically entertaining, ensemble-driven, fact-based procedurals about appalling crimes and the institutions — the Roman Catholic Church and Wall Street banks — that allowed corruption to fester.
